Volunteer teacher recruitment: PCs empowered

The Provincial Ministries of Education have been empowered to recruit and grant permanency to volunteer teachers at provincial schools, Education Ministry sources said.

Accordingly all activities related to appointments of volunteer teachers will be carried out by the Provincial Ministries of Education.

After receiving the details of volunteer teachers who have been serving in various provinces Minister of Education Susil Premajayantha has submitted a Cabinet paper aiming to recruit volunteer teachers to the teachers cadre. Thereafter, the Provincial Ministries of Education will be responsible for volunteer teachers recruiting process.

Under the power vested in provincial ministries the volunteer teachers in North Central Province were issued appointments recently while the other provinces have taken steps to issue appointment letters, the Secretory to the Ministry of Education Jayaweera Delpagoda said.

However a delay has been reported as applicant numbers change from time to time.
