HNB Assurance turnover Rs. 1.5 b

The HNB Assurance recorded a combined turnover of Rs 1.472 billion last year showing 31 per cent growth comparing to 2006. General Manager Finance and Corporate Services of HNB Assurance, Ajantha Gunesekara said that the company recorded Rs. 123.3 million Profit After Tax last year.

BPO industry to reach US$ 100 b mark

The global BPO industry will reach the US$ 100 billion mark by 2010 and Sri Lanka too could take a major share of this market. Director of Strategic Development, The Chartered Institute of Management Accountants Rick Sturge, who was in Sri Lanka last week for the Achievers Education Institute awards ceremony said India would account for around 30 per cent from this market and China 15 per cent.

The floating exchange rate regime has so far served the country well. Under the floating regime, gross official reserves has increased well above US $ 3 billion from less than US $ 1 billion before the floatation of the currency in 2001. The recent behaviour of the exchange rate confirms that it moves not only in line with inflation differentials, but also in line with inflation differentials, but also in line with financial flows and other short-term demand and supply conditions, thus making it difficult to predict the medium to long term changes in the exchange rate.(Central Bank)
