SLAF officer graduates from Asia-Pacific Security Studies Center
HONOLULU Air Force Group Captain Romesh Benedict Fernando, SLAF Base,
from Negombo, graduated on February 22 from the Asia-Pacific Center for
Security Studies “Comprehensive Crisis Response Management: Preventing,
Preparing, and Responding Course” in Honolulu.
Captain Fernando received his diploma from retired Army Lt. Gen. Ed
Smith, director of the Center. Captain Fernando joined 59 other senior
military and civilian Government leaders from 27 countries throughout
the Asia-Pacific region that attended the three-week course to study
regional security.
The Asia-Pacific Center for Security Studies is a Department of
Defence regional study, conference and research center.
The center’s mission is to educate and develop leaders to advance
strategic communications and security cooperation in the Asia-Pacific
Region.
Countries represented at the course were: Afghanistan, Bangladesh,
Brunei, Cambodia, Comoros, Cook Islands, India, Indonesia, Kenya,
Kyrgyzstan, Laos, Madagascar, Malaysia, Mauritius, Micronesia, Mongolia,
Nepal, Pakistan, Papua New Guinea, Peru, Philippines, Sri Lanka,
Thailand, Timor-Leste, Tuvalu, the United States and Vietnam.
To date, the Asia-Pacific Center for Security Studies has had
representatives from 45 countries attend the College and has hosted or
co-hosted conferences/seminars with 7,200+ participants from 72
countries.
