JAPAN: A Russian air force bomber briefly entered Japanese airspace over an island chain in the Pacific Ocean south of Tokyo early Saturday, a press report said.

The Japanese foreign ministry filed a strong protest over the incident which occurred for about three minutes from 7:30 am (2230 GMT Friday), Kyodo News reported. No official was immediately available at the ministry to confirm the report.

The bomber flew over the southern part of the Izu Island chain, which stretches south from Oshima, some 100 kilometres (60 miles) south of Tokyo, the report said.
