Maid, lover sent to prison in Bahrain

A maid and her lover caught in the act by a Bahraini man’s 10-year-old daughter have each been jailed for a year. The girl ran terrified to her father after discovering the lovers, the Lower Criminal Court heard.

It jailed the Sri Lankan maid, aged 25, and the 30-year-old Indian barber and ordered that they be permanently deported after completing their sentences.

They were caught in the maid’s Bahraini sponsor’s Gudaibiya home on January 18, after the little girl went to the maid’s room in the night. The barber admitted entering the 45-year-old Bahraini’s home without permission and the maid admitted helping him to do so.

The sponsor said he confronted the maid in her room and she denied having a man in there. “I did not believe her and went inside the bedroom and saw nobody. Then I went to her bathroom and tried to open the door, but it was not opening, as if somebody is holding it from inside,” he said.

“I pushed open the door and saw the Indian man hiding inside. He started apologising to me. “I pulled him out of the bathroom and slapped him and locked both of them inside the room.”

The father said he called the police, but before they arrived, the man had escaped by breaking open another door. He said he called his brother and told him what happened. After questioning, the maid admitted he was a barber.

The brother knew a barber living in the next building and when police went to the address, they discovered the defendant, the court heard.
