Peradeniya operating theatre opened

The main operation theatre of Peradeniya Teaching Hospital, which had been closed for three weeks owing to a dispute between doctors and nurses of the hospital, was opened yesterday by the hospital.

The directress of the hospital, Dr. Chandra Gunatilleke said that hospital services resumed with the functions of the theatre being assigned to the relevant nursing staff after renovating the facility.

The dispute between nurses and doctors at the hospital had been reportedly triggered over the sharing of space in the theatre.

The nurses struck work over their disagreement with the doctors which led to the closure of the facility causing inconvenience to many patients in a serious condition.

The situation led to the transfer of patients to hospitals in Kandy, Matale, Nuwara Eliya and Nawalapitiya.

Services at the operation theatre was restored after renovating its damaged walls, the directress said.
