Lankan taken into custody in Rameswaram

RAMESWARAM: A 36-year-old Sri Lankan Tamil was taken into custody on Saturday by Rameswaram police on arrival here from Jaffna with some ‘articles’.

He is being questioned to know the whereabouts of some persons, who had reportedly come with him and were later found missing. Police suspect that these persons could be militants.

Police said Lubinidas, who arrived here from Paruthithurai in Jaffna in a Sri Lankan boat by paying Rs. 10,000, later jumped over to another boat with the ‘articles’, which have been seized.

Police refused to divulge details about what the articles were.
