Global Hotel Management reaches Eastern youth

Mohamed Mustapha

Hotel industry is introduced to Eastern Province to evolve skilled professionals to meet the demand in Hoteliers in the area.

“We can produce professionals in the hotel industry to fulfill the total demand of the Eastern hotel sector in a short time period. Eastern province hotels are looking for domestic professionals in the industry. We have taken the initiative to bridge the gap in this untouched sector,” Managing Partner, Global Hotel Management Institute, Mohamed Mustapha said.

“Hotel Management education is an untouched sector in the area. Though there are lots of vacancies in Eastern province, people have no idea about it. These students have the capacity and talent to learn about the industry. We only want to passionate the students and improve the awareness in the industry,” he said.

Mustapha said the Global Hotel Management institution will also find foreign employment for youngsters in the area. “I have good contact in Middle-Eastern countries so I took this step though its risky. After we started the study programmes we understood, the industry can be treated as a sole entry for the development of the area,” he said.

“The students of this area target various sectors of studies, which is very costly. They are not aware of this industry. The culture also restricts the students to step in to the industry. Mostly, the people in Kalmunai are not attracted by hotel sector, he said.

Mustapha added that they have plans to consolidate the study programmes with Government bodies. “We also have spoken to NAITA and the Vocational Training Centre to make some arrangements to establish the courses at Global Hotel Management Institute in future. We are looking forward to contact Tourist Board and Ceylon Hotel Management School for further assistant,” he said.

“We also have plans to open branches in Trincomalee and Pottuvil in future, where we can attract many people and students,” he said.

“Guest relation, safety management, front office management and human resource training are the main topics we have taken in count at the time. Bellboys, Certificate in hotel management and the house keeping are the main training programmes taken as a first step. We will consider other programmes gradually in the industry in future,” Mustapha said.

“We are currently conducting training certificate and degree programmes for eighteen students now. These programmes contain theoretical training and a period of practical training. Practical training will be provided at a reputed place in the hotel industry in future,” Mustapha said.

“We will consider the students to specialised in the area of pastry and food and beverages in future. We will mark the female students and focus on developing the self-employment opportunities of them. This will stimulate the development of the area,” he added.
