Peradeniya Teaching Hospital nurses keep away

Not a single member of the Nursing Staff of the Peradeniya Teaching Hospital had returned to work up to noon yesterday despite Kandy Chief Magistrate Sumudu Premachandra's ordering the striking Nursing Staff to resume their duties immediately on Wednesday.

Hospital Director Dr. Chandra Gunatilleke yesterday submitted to Court around 10.45 a.m. that the staff had defied the Court order.

The Peradeniya Hospital has a total nursing cadre of 484 and their work stoppage has totally disrupted the daily activities of the hospital.

However, 10 out of the 12 nurses released by Court on a Rs. 5,000 bondage had reported to work later in the day yesterday.
