Bids opened for Mannar Basin blocks

Three companies have submitted six bids for three oil exploration blocks in the Mannar Basin, Petroleum Resources Minister A.H.M. Fowzie said yesterday. The bidders are Cairn India Ltd, ONGC Videsh (India) Ltd and Niko Resources (Cyprus) Ltd.

All the information pertaining to these bids will be reported to the President and the Cabinet, Minister Fowzie said. The evaluation will be finalised within three months.

“When we celebrate the 60th anniversary of Independence of our country, this historic event which will definitely determine the fate of our Nation. I am hopeful that our Government will definitely bring the prosperity to our country through our own oil resources,” the Minister said.

He expressed his gratitude to the President for his guidance, commitment and support given in this process.
