New Police Hotline

A new police emergency hotline number and an emergency number for each police station in Colombo city were introduced yesterday.

A launch ceremony was held at the World Trade Centre in Colombo to introduce the new number 011 5717171. The new hotline was officially granted to Colombo DIG Nimal Mediwaka by Lanka Bell Managing Director Surendra Gunawardana.

The new hotline and emergency numbers will make it much easier for the public to contact police in an emergency.

“The existing numbers 119 and 118 are busy and the public find it difficult to contact the police in an emergency. Therefore, the new hotline number and emergency numbers at the each police station will make access easy,” Mediwaka said.

He said each police station in Colombo city will have an emergency number which will displayed on police patrol vehicles.

“When the public have valuable information on any suspect, suspicious parcel or vehicle the public can reach the nearest police station on the new emergency line.”
