Hanumath Jayanthi

Hanumath Jayanthi (Lord Anjaneya Swami’s date of birth)

The age of Ramayana is still to be identified, and there are many authors who credit different dates to the actual time when the story took place. Each of them advances their reasons for the same after long research.

But the original Ramayana of Valmiki gives us the date of birth of Lord Rama according to the Hindu calendar and each one of us celebrate, the same every year. But in the case of Lord Anjaneya there is no clue about the date of birth according to the Hindu calendar.

We should agree to the point that it is not possible to pinpoint the date of birth of such mythological characters either. Therefore, we should leave this to the traditional belief, and not go about thrusting our belief and traditions on others in this regard.

The Hanumath Jayanthi is celebrated on the new moon day of the Markazhi month (December-January) and on the constellation of ‘Moola’ star as per the solar calendar.

In general, many believe that Lord Anjaneya was born on the full moon day of the bright fortnight (Sukla Paksha) of Chaitra lunar month. This is generally celebrated as Hanumath Jayanthi as a practice in part of Andhra, Karnataka, Maharashra and some portions of northern India.

The Rama Navami falls on Chaitra masa Sukla navami and the following full moon the Hanumath Jayanthi is celebrated throughout Karnataka and Andhra. In both these States the entire sukla paksha of chaitra masa is devoted to Lord Rama and the celebration is concluded on the full moon day with the Hanumath Jayanthi celebration.

As per the incantation of Sri Guru Samartha Ramadasa (who is believed to be the amsa of Maruthi) Maruthi was born in mathu masa (chaitra masa) on full moon day at the sunrise time.

Annual festival of Vavuniya Sri Kandasamy temple was held on January 22, in a grand manner with a participation of large member of devotees. Here the procession carrying the statue of god.

It is interesting to note that the last Jain Teerthankar Mahavir’s birthday also falls on the Chaitra masa full moon day. More interestingly Lord Hanuman is also worshipped as Mahavir in North India.

But in northern Bihar and in portions of Utter Pradesh the Hanumath Jayanthi is celebrated during the Vishak masa (May-June), krishna paksha, thasami thithi (tenth day of waning moon). There is a sloka by name ‘Hanumath mangashtakam’ in which this had been testified.

The origin of this sloka is not known. Interestingly in the third sloka of the same astakam, it is stated that Hanuman is married to Swarchala Devi also. Therefore, this sloka may not be the basis on which this part of the people are celebrating the Hanumath Jayanthi in Vishak.

Seychelles Navasakthi Vinayagar Temple was built in 1992 and the first consecration was done then and it is the one and only Hindu temple in Seychelles for the Tamil population of about 3,000-4,000. After 15 years the Rajagopuram is newly built with five tiers to a height of 16 meters and the whole temple is renovated at a cost of almost 7 Million Seychelles rupees and the Kumbabishekam was done on 20/1 and the Mandalabishegam will continue for 48 days. The function was graced by Sundaramoorthy Adigalar of Dharmapuram Atheenam, Virudhunagar born Thamil speaking Vice President of Mauritius A.V. Chettiar, Joseph Belmont Vice President of Seychelles, ArunKumar Goel, the High Commissioner of India for Seychelles , cabinet ministers, diplomats and other high ranking officials.20 priests from Thamilnadu did all the religious rites.

In Aliganj, near Lucknow in Utter Pradesh, devotees of Hanuman worship the Lord on the Tuesday following the full moon of Vishak month known popularly as ‘bada mangal’. On that day, the devotees go to Hanuman temple of Aliganj by walk from Lucknow and nearby places.

According to Sri Agastya Samhita, Sri Anjaneya was born on a Tuesday in Karthika month (November-December), Mesha Lagna, on Krishna Chaturdasi and in Swathi constellation.

It is difficult and futile to make known the origin of a rishi or the river is the saying. If we can conserve this energy of ours in offering our services to the Lord we are sure to benefit.

Each day is Lords new form.

Each day is His birthday.

Everyday is His birthday.

Let us smaran His name.

The greatness of Holy Prophet of Islam is attested by Qur’an It is the cardinal duty of a Muslim to immediately say: May Peace be on Prophet whenever the name of Holy Prophet is mentioned or written any where.

This is a complete Durood too.

Islamic Shari’ah laws

The Shari’ah laws are in force in Islamic countries especially in Saudi Arabia. The Shari’ah law is on one principle only and that is the principle of human interests and others have said that is based on two principles to realise and ensure the interests of human beings and to ward off evils and crimes in society.

In Sri Lanka there are judicial courts dealing in civil and criminal cases, there is also a Mediation Board which settles land and family disputes.

The Mediation Board should look into the interest concerning the Muslims. In the case of a Muslim who has cheated another Muslim by defaulting loans or by financial transaction in matters pertaining to business, then the Mediation Board should summon the Jemiyathul Ulema (Theologians) and some officials of the Sri Lanka Shari’ah Council to sort our the case amicably.

If this matter fails to come to a compromise, then this case should be taken up in Civil Court. The Jemiyathul Ulema and the Shari’ah Council should bear witness to what transpired at the Mediation Board in the Civil Court.

Almighty Allah has given to safeguard the right in the implementation of Shari’ah. Allah says - “O you who believe when you deal with each other in transaction involving future obligation for fixed period, reduce them in writing” (Al-Qur’an 2:282) there are four kinds of rights in the Islamic Shari’ah viz rights purely related to Allah such as Hudood (Legal punishments) for fornications, adultery, drinking alcohol and theft including cheating.

In such cases, only three methods of evidence are utilized: witness, confession and strong circumstantial evidence in certain cases: Rights solely belonging to man are those related to the worldly by compensation are accepted. Such rights are related to cases, like financial transactions, purchase and sale and credit.

In such cases various methods of evidence are utilized. Rights which are related both to Allah and man, but where rights of man are dominant, such as Qisas (retribution) in such cases, only three methods of evidence are utilized: Witness confession and circumstantial evidence in Qasamah the events of any complication of doubt. Rights which are related both but where the right of Allah is prevailing such as Oaths, Votive Offerings, Zakah and donation etc.

The best laws are those that yield best results in combating crimes. The experience has show that only Shari’ah has such an effective combination of penal laws.

The methods of evidence in the Islamic Shari’ah are various multifarious, and briefly, the evidence in Islamic Shari’ah is meant to explain the truth without any restrictions on certain methods.
