Pakistan down England meet Lankans in final

The Pakistan under 19 team set up a final showdown with hosts Sri Lanka by overcoming the England under 19 team by a convincing margin of seven wickets in their Tri Series limited overs tournament final league match worked off at the SSC ground in Maitland Place yesterday.

Pakistan under 19 also completed the league phase with an unbeaten record having notched up three impressive victories.

Sri Lanka ended up with two victories both against England. The final will be played on Friday at the same venue.

Pakistan's victory was fashioned by three half centuries from openers Umar Akmal, Ahmed Shehzad and Umar Amin as they reached their target of 252 runs with seven overs to spare. Akmal launched a fierce attack on the England bowlers as he raced to a 68 ball 84 with two sixes and a dozen of boundaries.

He was associated in an explosive opening stand of 149 runs from just 20 overs with his partner Ahmed Shehzad who blasted a sparkling 70 from 58 deliveries which was studded with one six and nine boundaries.

Number three batsman Umar Amin then added the finishing touches by stroking an unbeaten 68 from 76 balls with eleven boundaries.

He played a dominant role in a third wicket stand of 61 runs along with Shan Masood.

Earlier England put up a good batting display to compile a competitive 252 for 5 having elected to bat first.

Opener Godleman led the way with an unbeaten century while stroking only seven boundaries.
