Massive racket at Postal Dept:Plaint filed against 11 accused

The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) probing the massive racket at the Postal Department yesterday filed plaint against 11 accused charging them before the Colombo Fort Magistrate and Additional District Judge Namal Bandara Balalle on several counts under Section 167 of the Penal Code.

The 11 accused, all employees of the Postal Department, are charged with having forcibly opened the mail bags at the Postal Department and had removed several important documents including foreign drafts, foreign letters addressed to Sri Lankans with documents.

Sarath Siriwardena and Shiraz Mohamed Noordeen appeared for accused.

After submissions by the CID and the Defence Counsel, Judge Balalle fixed the trial against the accused for April 2, 2008.
