Motor spare parts recovered in Mannar

A team of sailors engaged in routine foot patrol in the Pallimunai area in Mannar recovered a haul of motor spare parts lying in the beach area at Katupalliya on Monday night, the Navy said yesterday.

These items were set to be transported to uncleared areas from the manner how and where they were lying in the beach.

The set of spare parts comprised five sets of brake liners, 26 spring bushes, seven Leyland withdraw plates, 10 light vehicle shock absorbers, three sets of rack ends, 14 signal flasher units, five pistons, seven tyre rods, 10 T2 K spring bushes, two alternator roters, 10 light vehicle leaf spring bushes, nine sets of Tezuka leaf spring bushes, eight sets of leaf spring pins, three sets of piston rings and four tractor head light switches.

"The area was further searched but no suspicious items were found," a Navy spokesman added.

The desperate attempt of LTTE cadres to smuggle these types of items show how badly they are in need of logistic supplies, the Navy said.
