ADB assisted mega programme in Wayamba

Rural Industries and Self-employment Promotion Minister S.B. Nawinna
said that 112 projects have been completed under the Gama Naguma
Programme last year.
He said electricity supply schemes were implemented under the 'Gama
Naguma, Jathika Saviya and rebuilding the Nation programme.
Infrastructure facilities will be provided under the North Western
Province Development Authority. Electricity consumers will generate job
avenues to uplift the living standard of the less privileged people.
He expects to select groups of people with entrepreneurial skills
from poor families and encourage them to engage income generating
activities in the Kurunegala District.
He was addressing a media to brief on projects such as rural
infrastructure development and maintenance, providing irrigation
facilities for agriculture, reconstruction of canals and dams improving
health and sanitary, facilities drinking pure water and relevant
maintenance work.
He said Asian Development Bank (ADB) has decided to launch a
sustainable maintenance programme in Wayamba. This project has been
entrusted the responsibility of implementing a pilot project of this
nature in the North Western Province with the assistance of the ADB.
This project is also entrusted with the responsibility of drawing up
the policies for maintenance activities, he said. |
