Bird flu will not affect Tamil Nadu

Tamil Nadu Union Health Minister Anbumani Ramadoss said that there was no chance of avian flu striking Tamil Nadu.

Briefing media persons on the sidelines of distribution of 60,000 clothes to Corporation schoolchildren by the Rajasthan Cosmo Club Foundation, in Chennai, the Minister said the public need not panic on bird flu in Tamil Nadu.

"Steps have been taken to prevent the spread of the avian flu in West Bengal, he said on Sunday adding that already lakhs of affected birds had been culled and people were being diagnosed and medicines sufficient.

Asked why it could not be possible to prevent the avian flu, he said the migrating birds from Pakistan, Bangladesh, China, Myanmar and other countries carry the deadly H5N1 virus.

But the State and Central Governments had taken all steps to bring the situation under control.
