Sri Lanka U-19 suffer second defeat

The Sri Lanka under 19 team suffered a major blow just two days ahead of the Tri Series tournament when they lost to the touring England under 19 team by 12 runs on the Duckworth and Lewis scoring method in a rain hit warm up match played at the NCC ground in Maitland Place yesterday.

England piled up a huge 318 for 6 from their 50 overs with Billy Godleman scoring a magnificent 123. Sri Lanka's run chase was interrupted by rain as they reached 20 for 1 when the game was halted in the fifth over.

However Sri Lanka were given a revised victory target of scoring 163 runs from 20 overs when the game recommenced after the bad weather. But the home side were bowled out for 150 in the penultimate over of the innings.

The Tri Series limited overs tournament organized in preparation for the up coming ICC Youth World Cup in Malaysia will commence on Wednesday with Sri Lanka taking on Pakistan in the curtain raiser match at the Colts CC ground in Havelock Park.

England U - 19: 318 for 6 in 50 overs (B. Godleman 123, D. Redfern 62, J. Taylor 35, I. Jayaratne 2 for 65, H. Illangaratne 2 for 80)

Sri Lanka U - 19: 150 in 19 overs (D. Chandimal 36, T. Perera 27, S. Pathirana 27, T. Westley 3 for 27)
