Security beefed up in Monaragala

The situation is back to normal in the Monaragala district after Police, Army and STF tightened security to the identified areas, Monaragala SSP Daya Samaraweera said.

The funeral of victims shot dead by suspected LTTE cadres in Thanamalwila had taken place in Thanamalwila.

"Life in the Monaragala district had returned to normal. All the schools in the Monaragala district were opened yesterday and there was high attendance at schools", SSP Samaraweera told the Daily News.

Security was beefed up and a massive search operation was under way in selected areas.

"Security was provided to the identified areas such as Monaragala, Thanamalwila, Buttala and Wellawaya. A massive search operation is being undertaken by Police, Army and the STF", he added.
