More than $ 26m US aid for Lanka

The US Government over the past years has provided Sri Lanka with over US$ 26 million to support humanitarian efforts, US Ambassador to Sri Lanka Robert O. Blake said.

The funding has been provided to meet the requirements of internally displaced persons, including water, sanitation and hygiene; humanitarian coordination; and direct food and logistics assistance.

The US Government, through the US Agency for International Development has been contributing over US$ 21 million for humanitarian purposes. This assistance has supplied over 6,710 metric tons of food aid among others.

The US Government has also contributed nearly US$5 million to the International Committee of the Red Cross and the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Refugees in Sri Lanka to fund emergency programmes. USAID Mission Director Rebecca Cohn said she was pleased that USAID could deliver such a substantial package of assistance on behalf of the people of the United States.
