More than $ 26m US aid for Lanka
The US Government over the past years has provided Sri Lanka with
over US$ 26 million to support humanitarian efforts, US Ambassador to
Sri Lanka Robert O. Blake said.
The funding has been provided to meet the requirements of internally
displaced persons, including water, sanitation and hygiene; humanitarian
coordination; and direct food and logistics assistance.
The US Government, through the US Agency for International
Development has been contributing over US$ 21 million for humanitarian
purposes. This assistance has supplied over 6,710 metric tons of food
aid among others.
The US Government has also contributed nearly US$5 million to the
International Committee of the Red Cross and the Office of the UN High
Commissioner for Refugees in Sri Lanka to fund emergency programmes.
USAID Mission Director Rebecca Cohn said she was pleased that USAID
could deliver such a substantial package of assistance on behalf of the
people of the United States. |
