Mago Digo Dai
Ruwini JAYAWARDANA
The scene is set for a reel of hilarious incidents when Vijaya
Nandasiri (Mago), Gamini Susiriwardena (Digo) and their furry,
four-footed companion, front line police dog from Balukistan (Dai) team
up the result is Magodi Godai (disorder)!
Gamini and Vijaya |
This is especially significant as Dai proves to be his own master. He
scurries around town sniffing here and woofing there landing his
unfortunate masters (uh-oh, or shouldn’t it be the other way round?) in
more and more hot water. Cheers!
That is just a glimpse of what the audience can expect from Mago Digo
Dai. The movie will begin shooting in Chilaw from February 16.
Mago Digo Dai will be the maiden film production of well-known film
importer and film co-producer, Janitha Marasinghe. He had co-produced
Ran Kewita and Le Kiri Kandulu while importing popular Bollywood movies
like Krrissh, Koi Mil Gaya, Kal Ho Na Ho etc.
The director is Lal Priyadewa who had directed movies like Jolly
Hellow, Nommara Ekkay Chandiya along with Ali Petiyo Obai Mamai which
became a hit in 2006.
Sanath and Anarkalli |
“Our main focus is on entertainment but we also wish to portray the
true situation of the country through movies. It deals with social
issues and unmasks the dual face of the authorities,” Priyadewa said.
The movie includes some of the most celebrated faces in cinema.
Gamini Susirwardena, the talented singer of ‘Sirasa Superstar’ fame and
Shalini Tharaka, title holder of ‘Sirasa Kumariya’ will make their debut
to cinema with Mago Digo Dai. Vijaya Nandasiri, Sanath Gunathilake,
Anarkalli Akarsha, Ronnie Leitch, Sarath Chandrasiri and several others
will be playing the key roles.
Let us have a brief chat with a few of them.
Gamini
“To be given a chance to act in a lead role as well as to contribute
as a playback singer is like a dream come true.
I was denied the opportunity of taking part in dramas at school
because I stammered but I was not discouraged. I have watched many films
and people recognised my talent on stage through ‘Sirasa Superstar’. It
is exhilarating to work opposite veterans like Vijaya and Sanath.”
Singer turned actor Gamini and beauty queen turned actress

Ronnie
“I am a rich man who is kidnapped for ransom in Mago Digo Dai. I
always opted to do something serious and this begins on a serious note.
Then the comedy comes in. This is the first opportunity I got to work
with Priyadewa and I am looking forward to doing a good job.”
Anarkalli
“Mago Digo Dai is something which speaks to a wide audience in away
of entertainment. My character is carefree, lively and naughty. I’ve
spoken with the director on different topics before and I’ve even
changed my look for the film.
Everyone is excited about the film. We have a lot of expectations on
it.”
Sarath
“Though I’ve been the villain in teledramas this is the first time I
have been requested to take that role onto the wide screen.
Ronnie |
I play a character named Chandarae who is in alliance with a minister
to do his dirty work for him but you will soon see that each uses the
other to get what they want from each other.”
Shalini
“I got my break through ‘Sirasa Kumariya’ and Pathini, the teledrama
which is telecast on Sirasa these days. I believe this is a great chance
for me to gain experience and guidance from professionals in the field.”
