Fleeing Tigers kill farmer

A farmer was killed and three others injured by LTTE cadres while a group of farmers were working at their chena in Dambayaya, Monaragala yesterday morning, Military spokesman Brigadier Udaya Nanayakkara said.

A group of farmers working in their chena were attacked by Tigers fleeing after detonating two claymore mines in Buttala area yesterday morning.

“A group of farmers were shot by a group of armed LTTE cadres and a farmer succumbed to his injuries on admission to hospital.

The incident took place at the Dambayaya area in Occumpitiya, Monaragala,” Brigadier Nanayakkara said.

A survivor told the police that a group of armed Tigers who stormed their Chena cultivation attacked them with knives and opened fire indiscriminately, defence sources said.

The injured were admitted to Monaragala hospital.
