Japan strengthens major projects in South

The Japanese Government has assisted the Southern region in several
major projects. Among them are Walawa left bank irrigation upgrading and
extension project which has been implemented under Yen loan to increase
agriculture production and employment opportunities.
The development study on comprehensive groundwater resources for
Hambantota district and the water supply project for Matara district
have been successfully completed by the Japanese Government.
The other projects includes Samanalawewa hydro electric power project
at a cost of Yen 16,966 million.
It also includes southern highway construction project, upgrading of
facilities of General Hospital at Matara, Kirinda fisheries harbour,
Tangalle fisheries harbour and Tangalle fisheries training centre.
Small and micro industries leader and entrepreneur promotion projects
were also facilitated.
Poverty alleviation micro finance projects and plantation reform
projects are other projects funded by the Japanese Government. |
