Negenahira Navodaya brings results beyond expectations - Karu

The Government's "Negenahira Navodaya" programme had brought results
beyond expectations, Public Administration and Home Affairs Minister
Karu Jayasuriya said at the final meeting organised to review the
progress of the programme at his Ministry yesterday.
"The great contribution and devotion of the officers involved under
the relevant Ministries, Departments, and other statutary bodies were
behind this success", said Jayasuriya.
He acknowledged and appreciated the services executed by various
officers to bring normalcy to the lives of the Easterners through the "Negenahira
Navodaya" accelerated programme which was conducted through 180 days.
Through this achievement it was able to draw the attention of
international donor countries and voluntary organisations to support the
programme. "The role played by public officers in this endeavour was
appreciated by President Mahinda Rajapaksa too", the Minister stressed.
The people in the Eastern Province who suffered long due to terrorist
activities would now be able to get about their daily lives without
fear, Minister Jayasuriya said.
Jayasuriya said his Ministry has already decided to conduct the next
"Janatha Sathkara Sevaya" in Trincomalee with a large participation of
officers of the respective Ministries, Departments and statutary bodies.
"This is specially to mark the completion of 180 days development
drive", he added.
All transactions of Cooperative Societies in the Eastern Province
will be exempt from taxes and long term loans written off. All main
retail outlets in Trincomalee, Batticaloa and Ampara will be opened
shortly.
The Social Services and Social Welfare Ministry agreed to provide
5,000 pairs of spectacles for the people in these areas.
Education Ministry has decided to take action to fill all teacher
vacancies in the Tamil medium schools through local recruitments.
The Youth Affairs Ministry explained that the Ministry has already
conducted youth camps with the participation of 384 youths from Ampara
and 370 from Batticaloa districts under the "Yovun Divi Maga" programme
of the Ministry. All arrangements have been made to open three Youth
Information Centres.
