Depicting the serene authentic village life

Rajadahane Sumithrayo
Author: Ranjani Senanayake

The volume ‘Rajadahane Sumithrayo’ written by Ranjani Senanayake is a book of rare calibre.

It is based on authentic experience that she had during her two years stay in historical village Lahugala in Digamadulla in her childhood where her father got transferred as the principal of Lahugala Maha Vidyalaya.

The episodes unravelling one after the other under its short and sweet titled bring out the beauty and tranquillity of the rural setting of the village and its enchanting flora and fauna and wonderful village folk she encountered with.

The information that the book conveys in its simple truthfulness about village folk and the events that had really happened arouse curiosity and simultaneously make the book highly entertaining especially to the young reader.

The chief beauty of this book lies not only in the wilderness and serenity of village life that has been captured but important records of places of historical importance of our bequeathed heritage make the volume precious to the more advanced reader.

Also this book is a good motivation to the young teachers to render their service in remote areas gaining lovely lifelong experiences.

The funds collected by the selling of this book serves a worthy cause to help the renovation of Neelagiri Seya and to help the poverty stricken villagers and their offsprings.

The author Ranjani Senanayake is an experienced senior teacher presently serving in Ananda College, Colombo. She has started her career as a teacher in 1971 and has continued to teach in many schools including Devi Balika Vidyalya, Colombo.
