Fire destroys building

A fire had broken out at a two storeyed building at Miriswatte Junction in Piliyandala at 2.45 last morning. The building which stored plastic goods was totally destroyed.

According to Piliyandala Police, no casualties were reported since the building was closed. The Fire Fighting Unit of the Mt. Lavinia Municipal Concil together with the Piliyandala Police and civilians helped douse the fire by 9 a.m. Police urged people not to go near the building as it is badly cracked and may collapse.


Veemansa self realization Poya Programme

The self realization fellowship of the Veemansa Bodhisattva Society has organised a self realisation programme to be held every Full Moon Poya day, commencing from the December Full Moon Poya day on December 23 at its headquarters at No. 78, First Lane, Gothami Road, Borella, Colombo 8 from 8 am to 4 pm.

PASU get-together

The Parliamentary Administrative Staff Union (PASU) which was established in 1969 will hold its annual get-together and felicitating ceremony at the Samudradevi Reception Hall, Welikada, Rajagiriya on December 18 at 6 pm.

Speaker W. J. M. Lokubandara will be the chief guest and Deputy Speaker Geethanjana Gunawardena, Deputy Chairman of Committees Ramalingam Chandraseker and Secretary General of Parliament Mrs. Priyanie Wijesekara will be the guests of honour.

In addition, Messes Sam Wijesingha, Nihal Seneviratne, Betram Tittawela and Dhammika Kithulgoda former Secretaries-General of Parliament and C.W. Pannila, former Assistant Secretary General of Parliament will grace the occasion as distinguished invitees.
