Rtd. DE Kegalle
B. W. EHELIYAGODA, Kegalle special correspondent
The Government of President Mahinda Rajapaksa has taken vast strides
to cerate and improve dairy farming projects not only in Kegalle
district but also throughout the country, said former Director of
Education, Kegalle Education Zone. I. Gunaratne at a meeting held at
Meepitiya temple premises in Kegalle to encourage the people to avoid
the evil habit of beef eating.
This meeting was held as propaganda against cattle slaughter for
meat.
The former DE Gunaratne said that cattle slaughter for meat is a
deterrent for both dairy farming and agriculture in the country and this
evil act of cattle slaughter in our country should be banned in the
interest of agriculture and dairy farming.
He said at a period the Government's spending a large amount of money
more than any former regime it is wrong and an evil act to eat the flesh
of the animal which helps the development of agriculture and to improve
dairy farming in the country.
The Ex-DE said in countries like India cattle slaughter and beef
eating is not practised by Hindus and animal lovers owing to its
tremendous connections and assistance to humanity by way of life giving
milk, cheese, butter etc.
Therefore, Gunaratne appealed to all those present to refrain from
beef eating and create an interest among the people that cattle
slaughter is a blow to the development of agriculture and dairy-farming.
He said that scientifically the eminent doctors of medicine have
discovered that beef eating affects physically and mentally all humans
who consume flesh of cattle and beef eating shortens the life spans of
human beings.
The acid content in beef is harmful to health. Gunaratne said that it
was the duty of all political leaders' responsibility to stretch out
their hands to support President Mahinda Rajapaksa and his Government to
rid this land of terrorism at this calamitous period in the annals of
recent history of Sri Lanka.
