Political tsunami averted -Premier

Certain elements were expecting a political tsunami on December 14th, which, if realised, would definitely have put the country's security at stake and the eastern province development activities would have to be stopped, said prime Minister Ratnasiri Wickremanayake.

The Prime Minister was speaking at the opening of Hepton village a tsunami housing scheme at Ahangama, Galle district funded by Upali Wickremasekera and Sri Lankans domiciled in the UK costing Rs. 100 million.

Over 43 families benefitted by this project.

The LTTE would have raised its ugly head if the budget had been defeated by unscrupulous elements.

The Government will not stop the on going humanitarian operations under any circumstances until terrorism is completely eliminated from Sri Lanka, he said.

The Government will do everything possible to eradicate terrorism in Sri Lanka, and all communities should unite under one banner to defeat terrorism which has been ravaging Sri Lanka by destroying lives of the innocent civilians and their properties, he added.
