Political tsunami averted -Premier

Certain elements were expecting a political tsunami on December 14th,
which, if realised, would definitely have put the country's security at
stake and the eastern province development activities would have to be
stopped, said prime Minister Ratnasiri Wickremanayake.
The Prime Minister was speaking at the opening of Hepton village a
tsunami housing scheme at Ahangama, Galle district funded by Upali
Wickremasekera and Sri Lankans domiciled in the UK costing Rs. 100
million.
Over 43 families benefitted by this project.
The LTTE would have raised its ugly head if the budget had been
defeated by unscrupulous elements.
The Government will not stop the on going humanitarian operations
under any circumstances until terrorism is completely eliminated from
Sri Lanka, he said.
The Government will do everything possible to eradicate terrorism in
Sri Lanka, and all communities should unite under one banner to defeat
terrorism which has been ravaging Sri Lanka by destroying lives of the
innocent civilians and their properties, he added. |
