Dilantha rertains title for another term

Malaysia Super Car Series:

Dilantha Malagamuwa Sri Lanka's racing driver who won the Malaysian Super Series last year proved what he is capable of when he retained the Championship for a further period when he won both stages of the fifth and final round last week end at the Sepang FI Circuit, Malaysia.

His victory on this day also set a new record for the Series becoming the only driver to win the championship for a second successive year. Two weks ago Dilantha driving in the fourth stage came to the front to have 13 point lead which helped him immensely for the fifth and final stage which was run last week end.

Dilantha made a fine start to the final stage recording the fastest times at the testing and the qualifying which put him in pole position what is considered as the most advantageous position to start off with. His closest rivals for the championship Malaysia's Wira was placed second in both stages Nick following.

In race one Dilantha was chased by Wira closely but failed to go past the leader Dilantha. Dilantha collected the maximum points from this race to have a firm grip of the tiltle for second time. Race one win gave Dilatha a lead of 18 points.

Race two became more important as Wira and Stewart were giving every they had to beat Dilantha. Knowing this Dilantha did not want to take things easy at any moment. He got off to a flying start this was mainly possible as he was on pole position. Wira was right behind Dilantha for few laps but he had to pull out due to technical problems.

At this stage everything was moving towards the winner Dilantha. He won the race two comfortably to finish as the 2007 Malaysian Super Series winner for the second time.

Though Wira pulled out of the final race he finished as the runner also for a second time with the help of the points he gathered from the earlier rounds. He was the only threat to Dilantha from the start of the Series. Stewart ended as the second runner up Dilantha says Wira though he lost showed real sportsmanship by being the first to wish on his success.

Dilantha said that all his hard work has brought him good results not only for me but also for my mother land. I will contnue racing for few more seasons to bring honour to my country.

Dilantha hopes to compete at Porsche Carrera Cup Asia, Malaysia Super Car Series and the Aston Martin Cup and few Endurance races during the year 2008.

His first race for the year will be the Dubai 24 Hour Endurance race which will be held on the 11th and 12th of January 2008.
