Second coal power plant in Trincomalee

Power and Energy Minister W.D.J. Seneviratne and a Chinese Government delegation held preliminary discussions at the Ministry recently to build the second coal power plant in Trincomalee.

The Chinese Government had expressed willingness to provide technical and financial assistance for the construction of the second coal power station in Trincomalee with a power generating capacity of 1000 MW. The first coal power plant will be set up in Trincomalee under the financial assistance of the Indian Government, a Ministry official said.

An extent of 350 acres had been already allocated for the construction of a new jetty by the Ceylon Electricity Board. The Chinese Government is also funding the country's first ever coal power plant in Norochcholai.
