Refreshments local style

Departing from the usual custom of offering a piece of cake and a cup of tea as refreshments the members of the Kurunegala Pradeshiya Sabha officials and media persons attending the council's monthly meeting were served with a plate of boiled green gram laced with a lump of scraped coconut and lunumiris and a cup of liquid cows milk during the tea interval under a novel programme initiated by Council Chairman Patrick Karunasinghe to promote the consumption of indigenous food items.

The councillors, officers and other invitees who enjoyed the meal thanked the PS Chairman, Kurunegala for his initiative in promoting local food.

Karunasinghe said he had taken this decision to fall in line with the Mahinda Chinthana theme "Think Lankan, Buy Lankan" and wean people away from this habit of eating imported wheat flour based products.
