President lauds Most. Ven. Medhalankara Thera on 99th birthday

President Mahinda Rajapaksa has sent a message of best wishes to Most Ven. Weweldeniye Medhalankara Maya Nayaka Thera of the Sri Lanka Ramanna Nikaya who turns 99 today.

President Rajapaksa in his message appreciated the Most. Ven. Thera's immense contribution to the Buddha Sasana as the Mahopadya of the Pali and Buddhist University and Viharadhipathi of the Mirigama Sasana Wardana Maha Pirivena.

The President said: "Your life mirrors the words of the Buddha. You have rendered a yeoman service to the Sasana and the Nation. You have won the hearts and minds, love and appreciation not only of those living here but also those overseas.

"I value your commitment to the Buddha Sasana and you continue to serve not only the Ramanna Nikaya as its 12th Maha Nayaka, but other Nikayas as well. You live a selfless life to serve the Sasana and face life with courage.

"My sole aim is to bring peace to the country. When I took over the leadership of this country my sole intention was to bring about peace and to build a society where the Dhamma is adhered to and morality held in high esteem.

It was also my wish to hand over the moral values which we inherited from our ancestors to the future generations.

I take this opportunity to pay my tribute to you for your guidance in pursuing my aim. I wish you good health and long life and the Blessing of the Triple Gem to continue with your good work."
