CIM UK President's Award conferred on Lasantha Wickremesooriya

Past Chairman of The Chartered Institute of Marketing Sri Lanka Region Lasantha Wickremesooriya was awarded the "President's Award", during the Annual Chartered Marketers' Forum organised by The Institute, held recently at Hotel Galaldari.

Wickremesooriya was felicitated in recognition of his services during his tenure at The Chartered Institute of Marketing Sri Lanka Region, which has contributed in many ways to The Institute's achievements.

The award was presented by the chief guest of the ceremony, Chairman of the Chartered Institute of Marketing (CIM) International Board of Trustees, Paul Gostick.

The Chartered Institute of Marketing Sri Lanka Region has become the largest and the fastest growing CIM Region, achieving many accolades, including the Best Managed Region Award and the Best Managed Programme of Events Award, presented by The Chartered Institute of Marketing, UK.

Wickremesooriya has served in numerous capacities of the Board and Management Committee of The Chartered Institute of Marketing Sri Lanka Region since its inception, being a pillar of The Institute's success.

During his stint as the Chairman during 2002 to 2004, Wickremesooriya pioneered the efforts in obtaining the Regional Status to The Institute, which has given the clout for it to overlook, not only Sri Lanka but the entire region of South East Asia.

Wickremesooriya was co-opted to the International Board of Trustees of The Chartered Institute of Marketing, UK, in 2006.

In 2007, consequent to the Annual General Meeting, the new Board of Trustees, in recognition of the strategic inputs provided by Wickremesooriya during his tenure, unanimously decided to appoint him to the Board of Trustees for a further term, with full voting rights.

Wickremesooriya is a chartered marketer by profession and possesses over 30 years commercial experience including decades of experience in senior managerial and directorial posts in a diverse range of industries.

He is a fellow of The Chartered Institute of Marketing, UK, The Institute of Sales and Marketing Management, U.K. and the Association of Business Executives, UK. Wickremesooriya holds a Master of Business Administration from the Postgraduate Institute of Management of the Sri Jayewardanapura University.

In recognition of his outstanding career, he was awarded the "Achievers Award" by the Postgraduate Institute of Management's Professionals Association in 2003.
