Basil Rajapaksa MP, officials visit Ranminitenna

The Government has beefed up security in Ranminitenna village in the
Hambantota district on the orders of President Mahinda Rajapaksa
following recent abductions and killings of farmers of the area.
Suspected LTTE terrorists have killed seven farmers within the last
ten days. They have also abducted several villagers.
The President dispatched MP Basil Rajapaksa along with several
Government officials to Ranminitenna on Saturday, to speak to the
villagers, oversee security arrangements for the area.
Sources at the Presidential Secretariat said, the group met the
villagers at the Ranminitenna Junior School, where they discussed
matters affecting the village’s security and welfare.
MP Basil Rajapaksa said that a well planned security set up had
already been laid in the area to ensure the security of the villagers.
He promised that the Government would not let the terrorists
interfere with the day-to-day life of the people.
He said that steps would be taken without delay to improve
infrastructure in Ranminitenna to ensure the smooth functioning of the
people’s day-to-day activities. He also promised to take steps to supply
electricity and water and to develop the road network in the village to
ensure smooth movement of the civilians. |
