Car fails to stop at checkpoint: Warning shots fired

Air Force personnel manning a security checkpoint in Colombo fired warning shots yesterday to halt the vehicle of a German embassy staffer who had failed to stop, police said.

The security personnel fired only warning shots. 'We have carried out a security check and the vehicle was released,' a police official said.

A German embassy official said the private car was being driven by the secretary to the ambassador, and she had not noticed the order to stop. - DPA
