People given new lease of life with liberation of East - Dinesh

The Leader of Mahajana Eksath Peramuna (MEP) and Urban Development and Sacred Area Development Minister Dinesh Gunawardane commended the three Armed Forces for liberating the East from the control of the blood-thirsty LTTE and achieving a great victory over terrorism.

He said that after liberating the uncleared areas from the LTTE, the Tamils, Sinhalese and Muslims in the Eastern Province have begun to return to their original places of abode and resumed their ordinary lives with vigour.

Addressing the workshop of the Federation of the All Ceylon Youth League of the MEP at Beruwala, Minister Gunawardane said that President Mahinda Rajapaksa has decided it is the bounden duty of the Government to establish a democratic environment in these areas to avoid the innocent civilians becoming victims once again.

He said following the liberation of the east, various countries and movements threatened the Government directly and indirectly.

They are making various comments and trying to destabilise the country. The Minister said that following the LTTE suicide attack on Anuradhapura, the Opposition and the Opposition Leader were asking for the resignation of the Defence Secretary and Service Commanders. But, it would be more beneficial to the country if Opposition Leader Ranil Wickremesinghe resigns and goes home.

He noted that it was the Ranil Wickremesinghe Government which allowed the LTTE to import and stock weapons.

He accused Ranil Wickremesinghe’s former UNP Government of strengthening the LTTE.
