UAE hails deal to end strike at world’s tallest building
Authorities in the United Arab Emirates announced yesterday that they
had struck a deal to end a rare strike by migrant workers involved in
construction of the world’s tallest building in Dubai.
Workers agreed to “resume work from tomorrow (Friday)”, the official
WAM news agency said, after a site visit involving officials from the
labour ministry and the Dubai police as well as an Indian consular
representative.
Builders at the Burj Dubai construction site, many of them Indian,
had been refusing to turn up for work and holed themselves up in their
hostels.
