Anuruddha beaten

Giant killer Anuruddha Ratnayake’s run of success at the AIBA World championships came to an end when he was beaten in the fly weight under 51 kgs weight class event quarter-final bout worked off in Chicago, United States of America yesterday.

Ratnayake’s hopes of at least winning a bronze medal in this meet was shattered when he went down to Vicenzo Picardi of Italy on points 23-4.

However Ratnayake qualified to compete in next year’s Olympic Games in China by virtue of reaching the quarter-finals of the World championships.
