Media now behaving well - Yapa

The Gazette notification that was issued following the airing of false and irresponsible information about a terrorist attack by sections of the media was withdrawn on October 31 due to the good conduct of Media, observed thereafter, Media and Information Minister Anura Priyadarshana Yapa said in reply to a question raised during the Cabinet news briefing yesterday.

The Minister also said that the decision was taken by the Government due to good conduct of the media. “The Government carefully studied the conduct of the media in the recent past before taking this decision.” The Minister said this was not done under any pressure from any quarter.

Minister Yapa appealed to the Media to refrain from airing news without confirming the facts at all times.
