Rehabilitation centres for Jaffna

The Government has taken necessary steps to establish two rehabilitation centres for both men and women in Jaffna to rehabilitate those surrendees who suspect that they may be killed or abducted.

Another category of people who get arrested on suspicion have to be kept separately from normal prisoners and rehabilitated to make them useful citizens.

The related Cabinet Memorandum submitted by Minister of Social Services and Social Welfare for establishing two Rehabilitation Centre for surrendees and/or arrested on suspicion was approved by the Cabinet Meeting this week.

A new court complex is scheduled to be opened in Jaffna October 24, 2007.

The vacated court complex could be converted as one centre. A well established Youth Council Centre could also be used as a second Rehabilitation Centre.
