Sri Lanka’s Mohamed Shahull Aslam who made his way to the pre-quarter
finals beating Saudi Arabian Asseri Nezar in here in Macau failed to
produce the same yesterday. Playing against a strong Chinese Xiao
Guodong went down four frames to nil to bow out of the on-going Games
championships.
Goudong completely out cued the Lankan in all departments of the
table sport to make sure of his semi final berth. The Chinese will now
confront N. K. Perwani, a Pakistani in the first semifinal today.

Meanwhile on another table Ryan Somaratne took on one of Asia’s best
cueist R. Pu-ob-orm of Thailand. Thai took the young Sri Lankan very
lightly and completed a comfortable four frames to nil victory.
This loss also put both Sri Lankans out of the race for any medal.
Meanwhile the women’s 8 Ball Pool Singles championship has reached its
semi final stage.
The highlight in this championship so far is the entry of two
Japanese women Kawahara Chihiro and Hamanishi Yukiko in to the semis.
They are scheduled to meet cueists from Thailand and Taipei.
The two dancers from Sri Lanka Kevin Nugera and Rukshika Fernando
failed to impress the judges on day one of the Dancing Sports at the
Macau Dome.
Rukshika and Kevin who arrive in Macau only the previous day were not
physically fit enough to perform the best they had in store.
In fact it was Rukshika who was suffering from the travel sickness
and she could not give her best to see keven the needed support to go
through to the next round.
Though she was not fit she competed with the sole intention of
proving that competing is more important than victory. Rukshika and
Kevin with all these setbacks participated in five different categories
of dancing Waltz, Tango, Viennese Waltz, Slow Foxtrot and Quicksteps on
day one.
Second day too the duo was seen in action in the morning session
though they did a little bit better they could not get the nod from the
judges to in into the next round which is expected to continue for third
day today.
The dancers are to return to the island on tuesday. Rukshani and
Kevin said that this is the first occasion that they came out of the
country to compete at international level.
The appearance they made here is of great value and determined to
make it to the next games scheduled to be stage in Vietnam.
