I can understand the minds of youth - Rajitha
Mohammed NAALIR
Although the youth were not the driving force behind the revolution,
they would carry forward the revolutionary flame, Construction and
Engineering Services Minister Rajitha Senaratne said Sunday.
He said even though youth are not the deciding factor at an election,
they add colour to any election result. This makes the political scene
more vibrant and colourful.
Addressing the youth leadership workshop organised for youth corps
district leaders at the Planters Hotel in Ampitiya, Kandy, Minister
Senaratne said that the down trodden community is the strength of the
UNP. Nearly 200 UNP district youth corp leaders participated in the
workshop.
Minister Senaratne said that he too was very active in the students
unions and underwent many difficulties in winning the rights of the
student community.
The Minister said that he can understand the minds of youth and knows
their problems. We know why the younger generation opposes the UNP.
The political system of the UNP has pushed the youth into a culvert.
A giant islandwide youth federation should be formed to overcome the
problems of youth.
During the workshop a large number of UNP youth corps district
leaders joined the UNP Democratic Group and said that they left the UNP
owing to the weak leadership of Ranil Wickremesinghe. |
