Nalanda - boys under-19 hockey champions

Nalanda Vidyalaya, Colombo scored an exciting 1-0 win over Vijaya College, Matale in semi darkness to clinch the boys Under-19 hockey title in the finals of the under 19 seven-a-side hockey tournament organised by Seetha Devi Balika Vidyalaya, Kandy and worked off at the Bogambara Stadium in Kandy.

At half time Nalandian led 1-0. Nalandian scored the winning goal midway in the first half when Nalanda Skipper Malik Madhushan sent a cross pass to centre forward Sameera Dilshan who sounded the boards. Nalanda’s goal keeper Gayan Kaushalya who brought off several good saves was adjudged the Best Player of the tournament.

The award of highest goal scorer in the tournament went to Nalanda College’s Sameera Dilshan who netted 12 goals in the tournament. Nadarajah Paraneetharan and Senthul Kumar umpired. In the Semi-Finals Nalanda College edged out St. Thomas College Matale 1-0 and Vijaya College beat St. Sylvesters College 2-0.

Kingswood College won the plate championship.
