Sokians clinch five titles at under 19 and 14 TT tourney

Dharmasoka College, Ambalangoda reigned supreme by winning altogether five titles at the All Island Inter-Schools under 19 and 14 Table Tennis Team Championships for boys and girls worked off at the S. Thomas’ College, Indoor Stadium, Mount Lavinia last week end.

The tournament was organised by the Sri Lanka Schools Table Tennis Association. They clinched the girls under 19 `A’ division title, under 14 girls `A’, `B’and `C’ division championships along with the boys under 14 `A’ division crown.

In the girl’s under 19 `A’ final Dharmasoka College `A’ beat Holy Family Convent, Kurunegala `A’ after a closely contested battle by three sets to two. Saduni Hiroshima, Pavithra Gimhani and Nelumi Gunasekara were the players in the winning team while the losers comprised Jayamali Udagedara, Srimali Wimalaratne and Lakmini Karunaratne.

In the under 14 girls `A’ final Sokians routed Southlands Girls College, Galle in straight sets (3-0). The winning team included Erandi Warshawithana, Nuwani Navodya, C. de Silva, O. Gunasekara and D. Chamika.

Dharmasoka College `A’ also beat Royal College `A’ (3-0) to bag the boys under 14 `A’ division crown. A.M. Sashiranga, Chameera Ginige and Imantha Udanjaya were the players in the champion team.

The other results: Under 14 girls: `B’ division- Dharmasoka College `B’ beat Visakha Vidyalaya `A’ 3-0, `C’ division- Dharmasoka College `C’ beat Dharmasoka College `D’ 3-0, `D’ division- Pushpadana Girls’ College, Kandy `B’ beat Anula Balika Vidyalaya, Nugegoda 3-1, `E’ division- Pushpadana College `C’ beat Viharamahadevi Girls’ College, Kandy 3-2, `F’ division- Viharamahadevi Girls’ College, Kiribathgoda beat Bishop’s College `A’ 3-1, `G’ division- Buddhist Girls’ College, Mount Lavinia beat Prajapathi Gothami Girls’ College, Ambalangoda `C’ 3-0.

Under 14 boys: `B’ division- Isipatana College `A’ beat Royal College `B’ 3-2, `C’ division- Devananda, Ambalangoda `C’ beat Kingswood `A’ 3-2, `D’ division- Vidyartha College, Kandy `B’ beat Kingswood 3-1, `E’ division Anura Central College, Yakkala beat Kingswood 3-1, `F’ division- Anura CC `B’ beat Kegalle Vidyalaya `C’ 3-0, `G’ division- Panadura Royal College `C’ beat St. Joseph’s College, Enderamulla `C’ 3-2.

Under 19 girls: `B’ division- Musaeus College `A’ beat Devi Balika Vidyalaya `A’ 3-2, `C’ division- Visakha Vidyalaya `A’ beat St. Joseph’s BV, Kegalle 3-2, `D’ division- Pushpadana `B’ beat Ladies `A’ 3-1, `E’ division- Ladies `B’ beat Bishop’s College `B’ 3-1.

Under 19 boys: `A’ division- Dharmaraja `A’ beat Royal `A’ 3-2, `B’ division- Royal `B’ beat Richmond, Galle `B’ 3-1, `C’ division- Royal `C’ beat Kingswood `A’ 3-2, `D’ division- Kingswood `C’ beat Kegalle Vidyalaya 3-1, `E’ division- Dudley Senanayake College, Tholangamuwa `A’ beat St. Peter’s College, Colombo `A’ 3-1, `F’ division- Gateway International beat Rahula College, Matara 3-0.
