Books, musical instruments destroyed in University fire

A large number of valuable books and musical instruments were destroyed in a fire which gutted a section of the first floor of the Kohuwala Fine Arts University Building in the wee hours yesterday.

Kohuwala Police said they put off the fire and prevented it from spreading into other parts of the building with the assistance of the Dehiwala-Mount Lavinia Municipal Fire Brigade when some private security personnel alerted them about the fire.

Their timely intervention helped to save many more books and musical instruments stocked in the adjoining rooms. There were no casualties.
