Union Assurance gives more emphasis to community

Union Assurance PLC one of the leading insurance composites has been in existence for the past 20 years and this year undoubtedly has been a significant and remarkable year for Union Assurance in all aspects. The company entered this year with the promise of giving more emphasis on Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) and has lived by its promise.

“Union Neth Hamuwa” was a unique CSR initiative by Union Assurance. The focus of “Union Neth Hamuwa” was on developing skills, best practices in business and introducing modern teaching techniques said General Manager Marketing and Distribution, Union Assurance PLC Rukman Weeraratne.

“Union Neth Hamuwa Viyaparashakthi” was targeted at the small and medium scale entrepreneurs to educate them on best practices of business to boost their productivity and profitability. This initiative is a joint project together with the Industrial Development Board of Ceylon and the programmes were conducted regionwise.

“Union Neth Hamuwa Danamuthu” was to educate teachers and parents on the new methods of teaching. The resource personnel for this event were leading Lecturers from the Colombo University. The program was broken into three main areas: Teachers Training, Parents Training & Interaction with primary schoolchildren.

The recently concluded all-island aesthetic competition and cultural show named ‘Pasalen Karaliyata’, comprising of folk dancing, singing and announcing, held in collaboration with the Ministry of Education, was designed to identify and recognize the innate talents of gifted school children around the country and foster the development of local dance and music, said Weeraratne.

26,112 children from over 19 districts participated in the initial competitions from which 6200 children were chosen to take part in the national competition. The program concluded in a national cultural show at the Maharagama Youth Centre, graced by top officials from the Education Ministry and Senior Management from Union Assurance.
