Tiger arms recovered

Eight LTTE cadres were killed in two different clashes with the Security Forces in the North and East. A cache of arms and ammunition were recovered, Military spokesman Brigadier Udaya Nanayakkara said.

Following an information the Security Forces confronted with a group of LTTE cadres in the Sinhakanda area located 1km north of the Kantale-Trincomalee main road yesterday morning.

Armed LTTE cadres who were fleeing from Thoppigala were attacked by the Security Forces killed one recovered arms. The Security Forces successfully repulsed the attack and recovered arms and ammunition following the incident”, Brigadier Nanayakkara said.

The Security Forces recovered a body of LTTE cadre. six T56 riffles, a pistol, a 40mm grenade launcher, a solar panel and two back packs.

Meanwhile, seven LTTE cadres were killed in separate incidents in the North on Tuesday. “An LTTE cadre was killed on Tuesday at around 10.30 am when the Security Forces retaliated LTTE attack in Nagarkovil.

“Another two LTTE cadres were killed by the Security Forces when they attempted to breach the Muhamalai Forward Defence Line on Tuesday at around 11.40 am. Four other LTTE cadres were also killed in the same area by the Security Forces at around 4.00 pm”, the Brigadier added. In a separate incident, the Security Forces uncovered a haul of explosives and weapons on a tip-off at Valikamam yesterday morning.

The Security Forces launched a search operation in the area and recovered a consignment of TNT high explosive slabs, suicide kits and other war like materials. Troops also unearthed four national ID cards, a driving licence, an ID card issued by the army for civilians, two fake rubber seals of the Assistant Government Agent (AGA) and Government Servant (GS) and an ID of a GS.
