NHDA to construct 5,000 housing units

The National Housing Development Authority (NHDA) will construct
5,000 housing units to overcome housing problems of families below the
poverty line.
Moves are under way to renovate existing houses and provide latrine
and pipeborne water facilities to beneficiaries.
The NHDA plans to utilise low cost technology and traditional
construction methods for the construction of the houses. The beneficiary
families are to be selected through the village committee (Gemi Kamitu),
NHDA sources said.
Rs. 100,000 will be allocated to construct new houses while Rs.
50,000 will be allocated for the renovation of existing housing units.
Rs. 200 million will be spent on the entire project. The treasury
will spend Rs. 140 million while the NHDA will spend Rs. 60 million.
The NHDA has planned to construct 5,000 housing units by the end of
this year, although it was decided to construct 3,000 housing units
earlier. |
