Two shiploads of cement arrive

Two ships carrying 120,000 MT of cement have arrived in Sri Lanka
thus meeting the islandwide demand for cement in spite of the shortage
created by errant traders concealing cement stocks.

Minister Bandula Gunawardena told the Media yesterday that the high
cement demand has been created in the country due to the massive
construction work now in progress including building anicuts, bridges in
the East under the ‘Eastern Reawakening Programme’ of the Government.
The Minister said many complaints have been made to the Consumer
Affairs Authority regarding unfair trade including selling cement higher
than Rs. 692 which is the fixed price. |
