Lanka for peaceful nuclear projects in Iran

Sri Lankan ambassador to Tehran Muhammad Zuhair has voiced support for Iran's right to attain peaceful nuclear technology.

Expressing support for Iran-IAEA negotiations, Zuhair asserted that the International Atomic Energy Agency's conventions allows Iran to conductnuclear researches.

The ambassador denounced the spread of rumours of a attack against Iran and voiced doubt about such a move adding that Sri Lanka opposed the imposition of new sanctions against the Islamic Republic.

Zuhair added that President Mahinda Rajapaksa's meeting with President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad on the sideline of the UN General Assembly in New York would pave the way for the further expansion of Iran-Sri Lanka ties.
